He killed me with a sword. How weird is that?

By Joshie on June 12th, 09 under X360,

Joshie gets Red Ring of DeathI'm not sure whether I should be ecstatic or torn apart by this photo really. On the one side my Xbox 360 has decided to commit sinful suicide at the very start of my two and a half week vacation, while on the other I feel I have reached a rite of passage among gamers. Just like a Bar Mitzvah I feel that receiving a Red Ring of Death is a sign from God that I have finally reached maturity and come of age.

This act should be celebrated with a phone call to Xbox support, where a delightful little hindu man will ask if all my cables are connected and whether or not I turned it off and on again. I should then proceed to acquire my own ceremonial packing box, which will be rushed by UPS chariots to the nearest repair center. In two to three working weeks I should expect my box returned to me; a wiser and more complete machine, and one that hopefully displays picture to screen.

Oh happy day!

Your Xbox was probably pining over my Xbox, so suicided it's self so they can meet in the german repair shop!

How sweet.

Joshie (13th Jun 09 01:44:40)
Aww, how cute. They want to make sweet xbox love in Germany.

I have to agree with you btw, having now used their website and received both e-mails from Microsoft, the procedure for this is 'effing confudleing. Now I need to get me a box for monday.

The irony that it will take two-three weeks >_>;
Who wants to bet money it comes back the day I start work?

Of course it will, the irony is too strong in this one!

Least UPS pick it up pretty quickly. Came the next day for me. Pretty friendly too on the phone, they obviously get it a lot.

LOL. Leave it to you to make something from reality that would piss a normal gamer off fun!! heheh, truly I'm riveted.

It's cool that they are actually attempting to accommodate you. My bf actually had the same thing happen to him. Heh, I wonder who comes up with these things. It's like everyone around the world knows what the 'red ring of death' is when they hear it. Anyway, it hit him on Raw vs Smackdown 2009. I lost my character! *tear* You won't get your memory back from the old one will you? I'm sure you would have a lotta data saved. I tell ya, that's why I love Sony and their wonderful memory cards. Even if the game frags you still have hope at finding a replacement boot.

The hard drive is detachable, so nothings lost :o

Files can get corrupted, like they can on memory cards, but that's about it.

I am curious. How old is your Xbox360, Joshie?

Joshie (13th Jun 09 20:28:33)
I got it last February, so its just under a year and a half old.

I got mine shortly after Joshie got his and they died roughly the same time, of the same problem.

HMM.

Although mine was destined to die. I got an E74 error the first time I turned it on.

I have been considering buying an Xbox360. I haven't been able to afford one for some time, but I hold hope that won't be the case forever.

However, the whole RROD problem has me concerned. A year and a half is just too short a time for a console to live. I've had a Super NES and a Playstation fail on me, but those lasted four to five years and were easily replaced at under $100 each.

I know that M$ did extend the warranty for RROD. It was practically necessary to save face, both for PR and legal reasons. On the other hand Tri-Ace, Hironobu Sakaguchi, and Cliff Bleszinski have all graced the Xbox 360 with their collective divine presence. :D

I wouldn't let this put you off buying a 360. It has by far the best online setup of the three consoles and has a truck load of great games to play on it. It's also the cheapest if you get the Arcade box. All consoles are covered for three years if they get a RRoD or E74 error, and each new model they come out with is getting more quiet and more reliable. Its just a shame its taking this long.

What they really need to do is release a Xbox Slim (because lets be honest, its a big ugly box) which dosn't melt so easily.

Also; I'm afraid we don't allow HTML in comments.

The one biggest thing putting me off from buying an Xbox360 is the economy. I bought a Wii console back when my significant other and I were earning a lot more money than we are today. Looking to buy any new console today... I can't do it.

I participated in a Quake 2 - Capture the Flag online ladder tournament back in the late 90s. The team (aka "clan") I was enrolled with retired #2 on the ladder as the #1 team was undefeated, even by us. I have my suspicions as to why, but no proof. Anyways, I am quite used to playing most online games without paying additional access fees, so I must admit that Xbox live holds very little interest to me.

But the games? Yeah, there are a few I would like to play. Lost Odyssey, Infinite Undiscovery, and Star Ocean 4. At least to name a few.

No Halo 3 for me, though. When it comes to first-person shooters, I am spoiled rotten (and a force of nature) with my keyboard and mouse. Blame it on my ol' Quake 2 online gaming days a decade ago. :D

I'll wait on a X360 until I feel that there's enough games on it for me to justifiably get it--it's the same thought process that went into me getting a PS3. And besides, many of the games for the 360 end up being ported to PS3, like BioShock. So far, nothing catches my eye.
